Evaluating and handling media requests.

Media requests need to be evaluated and handled in regard to how it can affect the case. Tackling various aspects of requests need to be conducted through a process to determine what media is making the request and who the journalist is. Also important to take into consideration is: What their editorial line is and whether their primary goal is to understand the case or is it for sensationalizing? What is the media’s goal during their discovery about the case, and what do they want to learn about? Also needed to know is whether specific employees are being considered for an interview.

Careful processing of these media requests and the implementation of the media relations policy puts standards in place to guard against mismanaged communication that could not only jeopardize a reputation, but possibly have serious legal repercussions. These safeguards can be put in place early on to avoid a crisis when it comes to communicating details on the case and the people involved.
